(CNN) -- Kris Boyd ensured a positive end to a difficult week by firing Rangers to a narrow 1-0 victory at bottom side Falkirk to keep their Scottish Premier League title hopes alive.
The Ibrox side were under even more pressure to produce the goods in the wake of Barry Ferguson being stripped of the captaincy and suspended by the club, along with goalkeeper Allan McGregor, following their antics while on international duty with Scotland.
And, despite failing to hit top gear at the Falkirk Stadium. Walter Smith's side produced just enough to narrow the gap to leaders Celtic to three points once again.
The only goal came in the ninth minute. Pedro Mendes slipped the ball through to Nacho Novo on the left, who did well to cut the ball back for Boyd to rifle home his 25th goal of the season from six yards out.
