(CNN) -- Barcelona kept up their relentless pace at the top of the Spanish Primera Liga with a 1-0 victory at Valladolid on Saturday.

It was their fifth straight league win and came after Samuel Eto'o scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute.

The Cameroon international score with a neat lob over the home goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo after exchanging passes with Andres Iniesta to grab the three points.

Barca's star-studded line-up has rattled home 85 goals in 29 games with just three defeats, but were often frustrated by the home side who had chances to earn at least a point.

Even the arrival of Lionel Messi, who started on the bench after playing in high altitude during Argentina's 6-1 defeat to Bolivia on Wednesday, could not produce a second goal.

Barca remain six points clear of champions Real Madrid, who kept in touch after a 1-0 win at Malaga.

Gonzalo Higuain netted his 16th goal of the season to give Real their six away victory in a row.

In other matches on Saturday, third-placed Sevilla boosted their chances of Champions League qualification with another 1-0 win, this time at Recreativo Huelva.

Star striker Frederic Kanoute scored the winning goal from the penalty spot.

But fourth-placed Villarreal fell further behind on 48 points as they had Robert Pires sent off in a 3-0 defeat at Almeria, hardly a morale-boost ahead of the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal on Tuesday.

Catalan giants Barcelona face Bayern Munich in their quarterfinal tie.
