(CNN) -- Wolfsburg have moved up to second place in the Bundesliga table, a point behind Hertha Berlin, as a hat-trick from Brazilian striker Grafite helped them to a thrilling 4-3 home victory over Schalke on Friday.
Grafite celebrates his hat-trick as Wolfsburg put themselves right into the Bundesliga title race.
Schalke took a ninth minute lead through defender Heiko Westermann, only for Wolffsburg -- who are unbeaten at home this season -- to level 17 minutes later when Grafite scoed from the penalty spot after being brought down in the area.
Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko was left unmarked to put Wolfsburg ahead on the stroke of half-time with his eighth goal in six games and Grafite looked to have made the game safe when converting a Zvjezdan Misimovic pass with 16 minutes still remaining.
Jermaine Jones scored just two minutes later to give Schalke hope, but Grafite completed his hat-trick after being played in by Ashkan Dejagah.
With time running out, former Germany striker Kevin Kuranyi hit a consolation for Schalke, but Wolfsburg held on to claim a vital three points.
