Lionel Messi's late goal ended Mallorca's hopes of overturning a 2-0 semifinal first leg deficit after Barcelona defender Martin Caceres had been red- carded early in the second half.

Bilbao are back in the final for the first time since 1984 -- the year they claimed the last of their 23 triumphs in the competition -- after they overwhelmed Sevilla 3-0 in their return clash for a 4-2 aggregate victory.

Barcelona have lifted the cup on 24 occasions, the last success coming in 1998.

But of concern this week will have been their inability to end a winless run that now totals five matches and has seen their Primera Liga advantage eaten away by big rivals Real Madrid.

They could have returned from Majorca without a final to look forward to had understudy goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto not saved a penalty from Pep Marti in the 52nd minute.

The spot kick award followed a challenge that saw Barca defender Martin Caceres sent off and came with Mallorca already ahead following Chori Castro's strike on the stroke of halftime.
