(CNN) -- Celtic striker Scott McDonald missed the chance of the game and home goalkeeper Artur Boruc made two impressive saves as Celtic and Rangers drew 0-0 in the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park.

In a poor match with few clear-cut chances, Australian international McDonald failed to connect properly with a Willo Flood cross from just six yards out after 15 minutes.

Rangers were better in the second half and Polish international Boruc was twice at his best to first saved a deflected header from his own captain Stephen McManus and then blocking a David Weir header from point-blank range.

The result means defending champions Celtic retain their two-point lead over Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League table with one Old Firm league game still to come.

The match was also notable for the appearance of 17-year-old Rangers striker John Fleck, who became the youngest Ibrox debutant in the Glasgow derby since captain Barry Ferguson's brother, Derek, played in a 1-1 draw at the same venue in 1984.
