Brussow missed out on the original Springbok squad, but he was called up to the squad because of doubts over the fitness of Schalk Burger.

These doubts have now become a reality as Burger, known for his distinctive blond hair and bold play, was left out of the team after failing to recover from a calf injury.

Brussow, who plays for Super 14 side Cheetahs, was considered unlucky to miss out for selection for the original squad but has now found favor with coach Peter de Villiers.

Springbok players have been prevented from playing against the Lions in their warmup matches, with the tourists building up a perfect record over five games with their latest victory over Western Province on Saturday..

Julian Smit is set to captain the home side again with Francois Steyn claiming the full-back position.

Fly-half Ruan Pienaar has been given the all-clear to play after a fitness scare.
