(CNN) -- Top seed Serena Williams and second seed Jelena Jankovic are both through to the last eight of the WTA Paris Open, although they enjoyed contrasting fortunes on Thursday.

Jankovic dropped the second set before securing her first-ever hardcourt victory over Li Na.

Jankovic dropped the second set against battling Chinese number one Li Na, before eventually going through 6-0 3-6 6-2.

It was Jankovic's first-ever hardcourt victory over Li, who had beaten the Serbian in their four previous meetings on the surface.

Jankovic will now face fifth-seeded French teenager Alize Cornet, who recovered from dropping the opening set to defeat Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 1-6 6-4 6-2.

Meanwhile, world number one Williams oozed class as she rolled over Karolina Sprem of Croatia for the loss of just three games. Williams proved too good for her opponent, winning 6-1 6-2 in under an hour.
