Grange takes overall lead after Zagreb win

(CNN) -- France's Jean-Baptiste Grange took the lead in the overall World Cup standings after a superb slalom victory in Zagreb on Tuesday night.

The rising young star of world skiing produced an assured second run to relegate home hope Iva Kostelic of Croatia to second place by five-hundredths of a second. Italian Giuliano Razzoli completed the podium places.

It was the second win of the season for Grange, who extended his lead in the slalom standings over Kostelic with Benjamin Raich of Austria in third position.

The 24-year-old also moves to the top of the overall standings with 466 points from Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who is on 444, with Raich a further 11 points adrift in third.

Grange led after the first leg and despite a storming second run by Kostelic, kept his nerve to win with a combined time of one minute 53.31 seconds. Raich made a mess of his first run but saved face second time down to fight back for sixth.

Meanwhile in the ski-jumping World Cup, Austria's Wolfgang Loitzl wrapped up victory in the prestigious Four Hills tournament by winning in Bischofshofen in Germany.

It was the third successive success for Loitz, who claimed his first win in Garmish on New Year's Day and followed up in Innsbruck on Sunday.

Once again he relegated Simon Amman to second place, but the Swiss jumper maintains his lead in the overall standings.
