(CNN) -- Jesse James, reality TV star husband of Sandra Bullock, has won the latest battle in the ongoing custody feud he's had with his ex-wife, Janine Lindemulder.

On Monday, a California court denied Lindemulder's request for extended custody of the 5-year-old daughter she had with James, according to the court documents acquired by the Los Angeles Times. Lindemulder, 39, asked that her weekly visitations be expanded to include overnight stays, but Commissioner Thomas Schulte has kept them restricted to daytime hours only.

This is the latest decision in a custody fight that began when Lindemulder, a film star turned producer of adult movies, was released from prison in July after serving a short sentence for tax evasion. During her absence, James and Bullock cared for the 5-year-old girl as well as James' two children from a previous marriage.

Once she was released, Lindemulder told the court she was "eager to get back to a normal, healthy, loving life" with her daughter, according to an October 13 letter to the judge that was obtained by CNN. The judge did grant Lindemulder daytime weekend visitation rights with conditions determined earlier: that she not consume any drugs or alcohol and keep the 5-year-old away from her new husband Jeremy Aikman, a convicted felon.

Although Lindemulder's request for overnight visits has been denied, the judge will allow her to keep her daughter overnight on Christmas Eve as long as she agrees to return the child to James by noon on Christmas.
