(CNN) -- Actor Dennis Hopper was taken to a New York City area hospital Wednesday morning for an undisclosed ailment, according to a publicist.

Hopper, 73, is in New York promoting his role in the Starz TV show "Crash," according to Sheila Feren, who handles publicity for the show.

He was still being treated at the hospital Wednesday afternoon, she said.

Hopper starred in "Easy Rider," "Apocalypse Now," "Speed," "Blue Velvet," "Hoosiers" and frequently had guest roles on television shows.
