BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A car bomb exploded in northwestern Baghdad Thursday morning, killing four people and wounding 26 others, an Interior Ministry official said.

The attack took place in the Shula neighborhood and targeted a popular restaurant, according to the official.

The U.S. military issued a statement on the incident and reported different numbers -- one local citizen dead and at least 21 wounded.

It said a police officer was among the injured.

Also Thursday, a U.S. soldier died of wounds sustained in an indirect fire attack near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, the military said.

Elsewhere, more than 20 miles northeast of Baquba in Diyala province, a suicide car bomb targeting coalition forces injured seven local residents, the U.S. military said.
