BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- Israeli cross-border gunfire killed one Lebanese civilian and critically wounded another Sunday in a village that straddles the country's southern border with Israel, a spokesman for the Lebanese army told CNN.
The civilians were in the village of Ghajar -- part of which is in Lebanon and part of which is in Israel -- shortly after 8 p.m. (1 p.m. ET), when the incident occurred, the director of information for the Lebanese army said.
An Israel Defense Forces spokesman in Tel Aviv, Israel, told CNN that possible drug smugglers opened fire at IDF soldiers in the village, and that the IDF returned the fire, hitting them. E-mail to a friend
