LONDON, England (CNN) -- Three men who were detained and questioned over an alleged threat against British Prime Minister Gordon Brown have been charged with terrorism offenses, Lancashire police said Thursday.
The three were arrested August 14 at Manchester Airport and nearby Accrington, in the north of England.
The Lancashire police statement makes no mention of Brown but says terrorism charges have been filed against Ishaq Kanmi, 22; Abbas Iqbal, 23; and Ilyas Iqbal, 21, all of Blackburn, England.
All three were arrested after an extremist Web site allegedly carried a message in English threatening to target Britain's political leaders, including Brown.
The charges against Kanmi include "soliciting murder" as well as belonging to the al Qaeda terrorist organization.
The charges against Abbas and Ilyas Iqbal include possession of "an article" not identified that would lead "to a reasonable suspicion that his possession is for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism."
Other charges against the three include disseminating terrorist publications.
All three are due to appear at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court on Friday.
The police statement says that a fourth man, arrested last week in Blackburn, and a fifth man, arrested in Derby the same day, remain in custody. They were not identified.
