KATHMANDU, Nepal (CNN) -- At least 15 passengers were killed Friday when a bus hit a pothole on a highway in Nepal and plunged into a river west of Kathmandu, police said.
Twenty-eight passengers were also injured, according to Gyan Bikram Shah, a senior police official.
Rescuers searched for the river Saturday morning for eight missing passengers, he said.
Officials said a combination of old buses, inexperienced drivers and poor roads often lead to bus crashes in the mountains of Nepal.
