ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- A suicide bomb attack on the office of a religious group killed one person and wounded 18 others in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, an official said.

Pakistani students gather after the suicide attack in the Islamic seminary in Bar Qamber area of the Khyber tribal district on May 1.
The blast occurred about 8:30 a.m. in the market town of Bara, in the Khyber tribal region near the Afghan border, a Bara city official said.
It was the second bombing in a week in Pakistan, where the newly-elected government has set a course to negotiate with militants.
Last Friday a car bomb killed three people and wounded 22 at a police station in a city in the North West Frontier Province.
Khyber is one of seven semiautonomous tribal agencies along the Afghan border and is home to the Kyber Pass, which links Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Militants aligned with the Taliban and al Qaeda have carried out several attacks there. E-mail to a friend ![]()
