(CNN) -- Rangers striker Kris Boyd says he will not play for Scotland again while George Burley remains manager.
Rangers star Boyd has become frustrated at his lack of opportunities for Scotland.
Boyd confirmed his decision after being an unused substitute in Saturday's disappointing goalless draw with Norway in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden.
The 25-year-old Boyd has become frustrated at his lack of involvement, playing just 28 minutes in six games while Burley has been in charge of the national team.
Boyd, who has scored seven goals in 15 international appearances, was snubbed again on Saturday as Burley started with James McFadden as the lone striker.
He then turned to Steven Fletcher and Chris Iwelumo -- with just one cap between them -- in a vain attempt to claim a win -- with Iwelumo guilty of an astonishing miss with the goal at his mercy in the second half.
Boyd's Rangers teammate Lee McCulloch has also announced his premature international retirement under Burley.
"I left a message on George Burley's phone last night and he hadn't got back to me," Boyd told the Press Association on Sunday.
"I didn't think just leaving a message was very professional, so I spoke with Gordon Smith (Scottish FA chief executive) and informed him of my decision."
But Boyd insisted he had not closed the door on his Scotland career completely, adding: "I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day."
Burley described Boyd's decision as disappointing but admitted he had no option but to respect the player's wishes.
In a statement released to the Press Association, Burley said: "It is disappointing that he has chosen to do this at a crucial time in our World Cup campaign, but it is his decision to make and I will, of course, respect it."
Scotland have managed four points from three games in Group 8 to occupy second position behind leaders the Netherlands.
