(CNN) -- Blackburn Rovers have moved to fill the gap left by David Bentley's departure to English Premier League rivals Tottenham by completing a loan move for Chile international Carlos Villanueva.

Blackburn manager Paul Ince hopes Carlos Villanueva can make a big impact at Ewood Park.

The 22-year-old moves to the north-west outfit initially on a season-long deal from Audax Italiano, but has already agreed terms on a further three-year contract should Blackburn decide to make the transfer permanent.

Villanueva, Chile's player of the year, had been targeted by manager Paul Ince since the former England international took over from Mark Hughes on June 21.

Ince, who has stepped up from promoted fourth-tier team MK Dons, introduced his squad to Villanueva's renowned trickery by showing them video clips of the player from the YouTube Web site.

"It is an exciting signing, everyone is talking about him," Ince told the Blackburn Web site. "He's a talented kid, he's a skilful player, I'm sure he'll excite the fans.

"Getting him here excites me and shows the kind of football I'm looking to play at Blackburn. We'll see how it goes, it is always hard when you come to a new country.

"I went to Italy (as a player) and it took me a few months to settle down, so I don't want too much expectation on the lad -- it will take him time to settle in, but we believe we have a decent player."

Villanueva, nicknamed "pineapple head", became Ince's second signing since taking charge following the arrival of England goalkeeper Paul Robinson from Tottenham. Robinson joined in a $7 million deal after veteran American Brad Friedel joined Aston Villa.

Villanueva will add his silky skills to midfield ranks now missing winger Bentley, who on Thursday moved to north London in a transfer worth an initial $30 million.

Blackburn have also been linked with a move for Red Star Belgrade's Ecuador midfielder Segundo Castillo, while former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler has joined the squad for pre-season as he seeks to prove his fitness and earn a contract following the expiry of his deal with Welsh side Cardiff City.
