(CNN) -- Premier League top dogs Manchester United and Chelsea warmed up for the new season with thumping victories in friendlies on Saturday.

Reigning champions United scored three second-half goals to beat Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 in the final of the Vodacom Challenge preseason tournament in South Africa.

Chelsea, who lost out to United in both the league and Champions League final, routed Chengdu Blades in Macau to stay undefeated on their Asian tour.

Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney both scored for United, who also had newcomers Tom Cleverly and Fraizer Campbell on the scoresheet.

Rooney created several chances in the first half before Giggs put the Red Devils ahead in the 40th minute by volleying a shot into the roof of the net.

England star Rooney then latched onto a through ball from Danny Simpson and calmly slotted the ball through goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune's legs to make it 2-0 in the 57th.

The 18-year-old Cleverly added the third in the 62nd after a cross from Simpson, while Campbell -- who impressed on loan to newly-promoted Hull last season -- rounded out the scoring with an 86th-minute strike after he replaced Rooney.

United drew 1-1 with Chiefs in the opening match of their tour, and then defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0.

Chelsea continued their free-scoring form with Joe Cole grabbing a double for Luiz Felipe Scolari's men.

French international Nicolas Anelka gave Chelsea the lead in the 15th minute after dribbling past Chengdu goalkeeper Lan Yi.

Anelka then set up Salomon Kalou for the second goal in the 31st, before Frank Lampard made it 3-0 with a shot from inside the area in the 38th.

Cole then beat Lan in the 55th for his first goal before Franco Di Santo continued the rout with a shot from just outside the box in the 66th after the Chengdu defense failed to clear the ball.

Cole added his second in the 82nd to make it 6-0 after a pass from Michael Essien, while Shaun Wright-Phillips unintentionally deflected a cross from Florent Malouda in the 84th minute for the final goal.

On Wednesday, Chelsea beat Guangzhou Pharmaceutical 4-0 in the southern Chinese city Guangzhou.

A match against a Malaysian all-star team in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday will complete their tour.
