(CNN) -- Teemu Tainio's transfer from Tottenham Hotspur to Sunderland is set to be the first of several deals between the two Premier League clubs.
The versatile Tainio is the first Tottenham player to move to Sunderland.
The versatile Finnish international became Sunderland manager Roy Keane's first summer signing on Wednesday, but is set to be joined at the north-east club by Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul.
Sunderland have agreed fees with Tottenham for all three, with French international defender Chimbonda likely to be the first to go, having met Keane with Tainio at the weekend.
Tainio, 28, who can play in midfield and defense, has signed a three-year deal with Sunderland.
"I'm delighted to sign a player of Teemu's experience and quality, he'll be a valuable addition to our squad," Keane was quoted on the official Sunderland Web site.
Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Juande Ramos is clearly intent on re-shuffling the squad he inherited from Martin Jol when he took over midway through last season with Blackburn linked with a move for England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Star forwards Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane are also wanted by Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, angering Tottenham club chairman Daniel Levy who has reported United to the Football Association over the Berbatov affair.
