(CNN) -- Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Paulo Assuncao from Portuguese side Porto for an undisclosed fee.

Assuncao has left Porto for Atletico Madrid after falling out with the Portuguese club.

Assuncao, 28, joined Porto in 2005 from AEK Athens but has been eager to leave the club after falling out with its management.

The player will join his new teammates at Atletico on Monday, although the Spanish club did not specify the length of his contract.

The club have been busy recruiting players this summer and Assuncao is the fifth player to move to the Spanish capital. Defenders Johnny Heitinga (Ajax) and Tomas Ujfalusi (Fiorentina) as well as French goalkeeper Gregory Coupet (Lyon) and French striker Florent Sinama Pongolle (Recreativo Huelva) have all signed for the club already during the close season.

Meanwhile, Atletico are in talks with several clubs who are interested in signing Portugal international midfielder Maniche, 30, who ended last season on loan at Inter Milan after falling out with coach Javier Aguirre.

"Returning to Atletico would be difficult, if not impossible. They sent me out on loan because of Aguirre, because we had great differences of opinion and being with him became impossible," said Maniche.

Atletico finished fourth in the Primera Liga last season and will therefore return to the Champions League after an 11-year absence.
