BLACKBURN, England -- Striker Benni McCarthy has agreed a new three-year contract with Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.

McCarthy scored 24 goals last season, his first at Blackburn after leaving Porto.
The South African international has committed himself to the club until 2011.
Negotiations between the club and player have continued for some time and Rovers manager Mark Hughes said: "I think it's actually done now which is good news for us."
McCarthy joined from Porto last season, scoring 24 goals. This campaign he has been somewhat overshadowed by fellow-forward Roque Santa Cruz but has still been on target 11 times and played a key role in the team.
Rovers and McCarthy had to wait for the player's work permit to be renewed to complete the deal, but that proved a formality. E-mail to a friend ![]()
