MADRID, Spain -- Arjen Robben, Real Madrid's Dutch international winger, faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a severe sprain to his left ankle during Real's 3-2 win at Recreativo Huelva on Saturday.

Robben suffered his latest injury when challenged by Recreativo's Quique Alvarez, who was sent off.

He was hurt in a 67th minute challenge from Huelva's Quique Alvarez and the first game he will miss will be Wednesday's Champions League meeting with Roma.

He will also miss at least three of Real's next league matches and could be out for up to six weeks.

Alvarez, who was sent off for the tackle, said he regretted his reckless lunge at Robben.

"It's the worst day of my professional career. It was a serious error. I was wrong and I feel terrible although I never had any malicious intentions," Alvarez told Spanish sports daily Marca on Monday.

Robben was Real's most expensive summer signing at $53 million when he moved from English Premiership side Chelsea last summer.

He has been somewhat expensive despite his excellent form since the start of the year.

He has only started six league games this season, and played in another six as a substitute, out of Real's 26 so far this season.

Robben suffered a torn thigh muscle while away on national team duty in a Euro 2008 qualification match in mid-October and was out of action for a month.

Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies will be out of action for several months after rupturing an Achilles tendon during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

He had an operation in London hours after being carried off in the first half at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

He was due to return to the Midlands later on Monday and faced the prospect hat he might not be playing again until October.

"The operation went ahead on Saturday evening and the surgeon said it went very well," Davies told Villa's Web site.

"There's a little bit of soreness there now and I'll just have to rest it up and let everything settle down."

Davies was in England coach Fabio Capello's initial squad for his first match in charge, the friendly against Switzerland at Wembley last month.

Zat Knight is now in line to replace Davies for the final two months of a season where Villa are pushing for a place in next season's Champions League.

Knight lost his place to Davies in late December after having to serve a one-match suspension.
