LONDON, England -- Former German international midfielder Dietmar Hamann has been rewarded for his role in Manchester City's revival under Sven-Goran Eriksson this season with a new one-year deal at the Premier League club.
Hamann has been outstanding in Manchester City's resurgence this season.
Hamann, who was outstanding in City's shock 2-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday, will now be contracted at Eastlands until the end of next season.
The 34-year-old joined City on a free transfer from Liverpool in 2006 and spent much of his first season on the sidelines with a series of injuries.
But this term under Eriksson he has flourished and has played 28 games in the current campaign as City bid for a place in Europe.
Hamann, who played in the Germany team that lost in the final of the 2002 World Cup to Brazil, enjoyed Champions League success with Liverpool in 2005.
City are currently seventh in the Premier League table, three points adrift of fourth-placed Everton, who occupy the final qualifying spot for next season's Champions League. E-mail to a friend ![]()
