MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is close to a return to action after two months on the sidelines with a knee problem.
Scholes is eying a return to the Manchester United first team after two months out with a knee injury.
The 33-year-old has started running again after a lateral ligament injury and has targeted the end of the month to make his comeback.
"I've got these next few weeks to get as fit as I can, so hopefully I'll be fresh when I come back," said the former England midfielder.
"It's a couple of months since the operation now and everything seems to be okay. I'm on track to return at the end of January or start of February."
Scholes admits it has been difficult for him to sit out so many matches. "It's been frustrating for me. I still see all the games but it does get a bit boring just watching because all you want is to be out there playing.
"But I know that I have to be patient and hopefully I'll be back playing soon." E-mail to a friend
