(CNN) -- October's "The Screening Room," hosted by Myleene Klass, goes on the road to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to celebrate the best of Brazilian cinema.

Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas filming on the set of the film, "Linha de Passe."

Films such as "City of Gold" and "Elite Squad" have given audiences a glimpse of life in the slums known as favellas, which are controlled by armed drug dealers. To make movies like these, a script must be submitted to the police and local drug dealers for approval as a condition of filming within the communities.

"The Screening Room" follows two Brazilian filmmakers into one of Rio's 700 favellas to demonstrate the dangers and delights of filming in such conditions. Central to favella dwelling is "funk" music -- a mix of samba, hip-hop and electronica holding inhabitants in its grip.

Brazilian directors such as Walter Salles, Fernando Meirelles, Bruno Berreta and Jose Padilha have broken into the international market with the quality of their work. Join "The Screening Room" this month for a fascinating insight into the world of Brazilian cinema.
