(CNN) -- Here are a selection of clips from some of the latest movies to come out of Australia -- a country set to become a global over-achiever in the movie-making field.

Eric Bana and Famke Potente star in Richard Roxburgh's debut "Romulus, My Father," based on the memoirs of philosopher Raimond Gaita.

"The Jammed"
(Dee Mclachlan, 2007)

Inspired by real life events and Australian court transcriptions "The Jammed" is an exploration of the seedy underworld of human sex trafficking.

"The Black Balloon"
(Elissa Down, 2008)

Elissa Down's film has already caught the eye of the Berlin Film Festival jury. Toni Collette stars in this family drama that looks at the frustrations of adolescence and autism.

(Tatia Rosenthal, 2008)

An unemployed 28-year-old loser comes across a disgruntled angel, a magician in debt and two-inch tall students in his search for the meaning of life. The voices of Geoffrey Rush and Anthony La Paglia feature in this stop-motion animated film.

"Bomb Harvest"
(Kim Mourdant, 2007)

Premiered at this year's Sydney Film Festival, Australian bomb disposal specialist Laith Stevens has to train an inexperienced "big bomb" team to deal with left over ordnance that litters Laos. Bomb Harvest shows the deadly legacy of America's secret war.

"The Square"
(Nash Edgerton, 2008)

"The Square" is stuntman Nash Edgerton's debut feature as a director. The thriller about the unravelling of an unhappily married man was one of the films in competition at the Sydney Film Festival.

"Romulus, My Father"
(Richard Roxburgh, 2007)

Richard Roxburgh's directorial debut stars Eric Bana and Famke Potente. Based on the memoirs of philosopher Raimond Gaita the film was awarded Best Film by the Australian Film Institute in 2007.

"Death Defying Acts"
(Gillian Armstrong, 2007)

Fantasy drama set in Edinburgh in the 1920's, the film is based around a love affair between escapologist Harry Houdini (Guy Pearce) and a beautiful con woman (Catherine Zeta-Jones).
