LONDON, England (CNN) -- An industry watchdog has criticized tight security measures at UK airports for failing to protect passengers, as the country's busiest airport comes under fire for delays that could harm Britain's economy.

Security at UK aiports was stepped up following a foiled terror plot in 2006.
We asked for your worst airport experiences.
I flew out of Heathrow Terminal 4 on the Sunday after the failed London car bombs and the Glasgow airport attack. After my experience that day, I have decided to do my utmost to avoid flying either into or through Heathrow. This is despite the fact that I am originally from London and often visit family in south-east England. I fully understand and agree with the need for comprehensive and thorough security checks. However, my experience was that some decisions made regarding security procedures really did not make sense and contributed unnecessarily to additional passenger delays and frustration.

I travel frequently from Cyprus to the Dominican Republic via Heathrow and Miami International (sometimes JFK); probably twice a month; and am constantly annoyed when I arrive either at Miami International and/or Larnaca without my baggage.
Usually I have in excess of two hours, sometimes five hours, to make the connection to Miami/JFK. Apparently this is not enough time for the baggage handlers to transfer my luggage to the BA flight to Miami/JFK and I arrive at the destination without luggage. The same occurs upon returning from Miami/JFK to Larnaca via Heathrow.
In addition to this, in order to change from one terminal to another at Heathrow with only two hours or so, it is annoying to find that more often than not, the motorised walkways at Heathrow are not operational and face longer than anticipated journeys from the arrival gate to the transfer area and then be faced with hundreds of people waiting to go through security checks.

Recently on going through Heathrow I was told I could not take my 120ml contact lens solution through hand baggage despite it being half-full. I had to buy a 100ml container and fill it with the 60ml from my contact lens solution bottle. I then placed the empty container in my hand baggage and proceeded through security. Once through security, I took the 50ml and poured it back in to the original 120ml container. A complete nonsense which in no way makes you feel more secure through Heathrow.

As someone who travels long haul every month from Canada to Asia, Africa and Middle East, Heathrow is a disgrace compared to other airports around the world. The one bag limit is a ridiculous rule and causes grief for transiting passengers who get caught on the one bag rule even though they do not step outside the airport. Recently I have chosen to transit through other European airports to avoid the Heathrow hassle.

I recently had a terrible experience at Heathrow airport. After the long checks we boarded the flight and had several apologies from the flight crew over 4 hours due to baggage miscount. I got to my final destination Addis Ababa over 4 hrs behind schedule and my luggage was not on the plane!

Last summer I was bounced from a direct Tel Aviv-New York flight and offered the alternative of changing planes at Heathrow. When I arrived at Heathrow, even though I was coming directly from an airport where I had been checked for security, I had to stand in a queue with hundreds of other people for about two hours, waiting to be checked again. The large room was entirely filled with this queue, which snaked back and forth to cover all the available space, and - at the height of the August heat - the air conditioning system was broken and we kept hearing announcements that it was being repaired, but this did not happen during the two hours that I was there. I am amazed that no riots broke out.
