SANTIAGO, Chile (Reuters) -- A moderate earthquake shook the Chilean capital, Santiago, on Wednesday, causing tall buildings in the city center to sway.

The magnitude-5.0 quake occurred at 10:14 a.m. just off the Pacific coast of Chile, 47 miles (75 kilometers) from the port city of Valparaiso, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS also said the quake was 88 miles (141 kilometers) from Santiago and 158 miles (254 kilometers) from the Argentine city of Mendoza.
