Marijuana Cultivation

Marijuana cultivation on America's public lands is a multi-billion dollar illicit industry. Law enforcement believes violent Mexican drug trafficking cartels are involved in the implementation, operation, and management of 80 to 90 percent of all marijuana plantations in the United States.

Cultivation is generally concentrated in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Kentucky, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, and West Virginia. These international cartels usually employ heavily armed Mexican nationals or violent U.S. street gangs to live, tend, and protect their plantations, which usually range from 1,000 to 10,000 plants each.
