Federal Prison Population by Citizenship

2000 -- 70 percent United States citizenship, 30 percent other

2001 -- 70.7 percent United States citizenship, 29.3 percent other

2002 -- 71.4 percent United States citizenship, 28.6 percent other

2003 -- 71.6 percent United States citizenship, 28.4 percent other

2004 -- 71.8 percent United States citizenship, 28.2 percent other

2005 -- 71.5 percent United States citizenship, 28.5 percent other

2006 -- Not applicable

2007 -- (as of April) 73.5 percent United States citizenship, 27.5 percent other

In 2007, about 73 percent of the federal prison population had U.S. citizenship, the Bureau of Prisons says.
