(CNN) -- The mental scars of war are often far more debilitating than the physical injuries that servicemen and women pick up during combat. But a new virtual war simulation aims to help veterans recover from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Read full story

Can virtual reality help cure the mental scars of battle?

I think it depends on the nature of the trauma and the nature of the individual. Some people deal with trauma much more effectively and I would assume that they would be more susceptible to this kind of treatment. However, others may prefer the loving touch of a caring person. Having the option is nevertheless, intriguing.
Chris, South Korea

When self help tapes, meditation and guided voice therapies can help, why not virtual reality. It can take them back to happy memories and could heal their sufferings, I guess it's possible.
Fahad Anis, Karachi, Pakistan

Probably. Since everything happens in the mental plain before it even manifests as physical reality. If we utilize and manipulate the mind in a productive way, we may be able to trick the mind and cure itself. Unless, we do it vice-versa thus just giving more harm to the body.
Gilbert, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines

I don't think so. I beleive "prevention is better than cure." So it's better to try stopping wars all together so that no scars are there in the future to heal.
Ruwinda, Sri Lanka

I believe that Virtual Reality can be use for peaceful purposes. So, there will be no more war traumas. Perhaps, Future Wars will be done using Virtual Reality as a diplomatic solution.
