LIVERPOOL, England -- Fernando Torres is optimistic that he will recover from a thigh injury and be fit to play in Liverpool's Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.

Torres injured a thigh when he was training with the Spanish international squad.

Torres did the damage whilst training with the Spanish international side last week and the original prognosis was that he would be out of action for eight to 10 days.

This week he has been working on his fitness at Liverpool's Melwood training ground and he told the Daily Mirror: "I intend to be fit for the Everton game on Saturday. I don't want to miss out on the derby because it is such an important game."

Roland Bianchi, Sven-Goran Eriksson's first signing after being appointed manager of Manchester City in the summer, is becoming disgruntled with his lack of first team football.

After his switch from Reggina the Italian has started only three games and made brief substitute appearances in four others.

"I have set a reasonable deadline of December for things to change," said Bianchi, adding: " I don't like playing five or 10 minutes of games.

"I'm not used to being left out of the side and we'll see what happens."

Tottenham full-back Pascal Chimbonda expects to extend his contract with the London club.

His agent Willie McKay has been negotiating with Tottenham.

"We are in talks over a new deal for Pascal," McKay, told SkySports.com. "I have spoken to Tottenham sporting director Damien Comolli about an extension for Pascal.

"Talks are going well and we are waiting until after the next match to try and conclude things." E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend
