(CNN) -- Last week I had the privilege of hosting the UEFA Champions League draw, and from what I saw, I can safely say that European football's governing body has successfully been able to create a brand which is respected by everyone -- club directors, managers and players.

The UEFA Champions League draw decides which of Europe's top clubs will face off in the early stages
It was amazing to be able to see what happens behind the scenes at an event like this.
First of all, the planning was impressive, with several UEFA departments coordinating hundreds of people before, during and after the draw.
Then, there was the rehearsing, to make sure no stone had been left unturned.
Finally, the discipline and concentration during the execution phase was second-to-none, with everyone acknowledging that mistakes were just not acceptable.
For the last two years, UEFA has combined the Champions League draw ceremony with the European Club Football Awards, and the format has been a success.
The show has featured some of the biggest stars in the game, and I can assure you that everyone takes this seriously. I had a chance to speak with Clarence Seedorf and Kaka backstage before the ceremony started, and they were genuinely excited to be there.
Sometimes players are accused of being big-headed and disrespectful towards the media and several football organizations, but from what I saw, there was only respect and admiration for what they were a part of.
And it's easy to understand why. After all, the Champions League is the biggest club competition in the world. It combines the best players and the best teams, and features some of the best sport television production around. It has earned the respect of the footballing world and will continue to grow as its history deepens. E-mail to a friend ![]()
