CARSON, California (Reuters) -- David Beckham scored his first goal for Los Angeles Galaxy in their SuperLiga semifinal against D.C. United on Wednesday, striking with a free kick in the 27th minute.

David Beckham bends in a 25-meter free kick Wednesday night against D.C. United.
The 32-year-midfielder, wearing the captain's armband in his first start for the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, curved one of his trademark strikes into the top left corner of the net from 25 meters, leaving goalkeeper Troy Perkins stranded.
Beckham, hampered by an injured left ankle for the last two months, had made only two fleeting appearances for the Galaxy since joining them last month.
He played for 16 minutes as a late substitute against FA Cup holders Chelsea on July 21 before making his MLS debut on Thursday at D.C. United, playing the final 21 minutes in a 1-0 loss before a capacity crowd of 46,686. E-mail to a friend ![]()
