LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The Los Angeles Police Department said it investigated a possible threat against Kevin Federline earlier this year, but the case was closed for insufficient evidence, the department reported Monday.

Police said it had looked into a threat against Kevin Federline earlier this year, but the case was closed for lack of evidence.
"Back in June there was an investigation, there was not enough evidence to substantiate the allegations and the case was closed," said Norma Eisenman, an LAPD spokesperson, noting that "we do not have a current investigation open on Mr. Federline."
The FBI reported that it received "non-specific, uncorroborated" information regarding Federline and passed the information to local authorities "out of abundance of caution."
"Entertainment Tonight" had reported a contract had been put out on Kevin Federline's life.
Federline is the ex-husband of pop singer Britney Spears. The two are currently locked in a bitter custody battle for their two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
The couple's divorce was finalized July 30 after less than three years of marriage. Terms of the divorce, including alimony, were not made public, according to Spears' attorney, Laura Wasser.
TMZ.com reported Wasser withdrew from representing Spears Monday morning.
Spears' mediocre performance at MTV's Video Music Awards in Las Vegas September 9 elicited brutal reviews from critics and fans alike and increased questions about whether she will ever be able to get her career back on track. E-mail to a friend ![]()
