(InStyle.com ) -- If you misplace your emory board or you're sporting bad tanning streaks, the quick fix might be as close as your kitchen. Celebrity experts share their secret remedies.

1. Lemon
To fade sunless tanning streaks, Susie Hatton, owner of the Chocolate Sun tanning salon in Santa Monica (clients include Teri Polo), rubs the stained area with half a lemon and lets the juice soak in for three minutes before rinsing.
2. Food Coloring
Mix a drop of red food coloring with a gloss or moisturizer to create a long-lasting lip or cheek stain, suggests New York City makeup artist Matin Maulawizada, who has worked with Angelina Jolie. "But don't put the undiluted food coloring directly on your skin," he cautions.
3. Toothpicks
"They clean under the nail tip better than anything," says Sandra Oh's L.A. makeup artist, Cristina Bartolucci. "You have to be careful of the point, but toothpicks blow orange sticks away."
4. Honey
New York City makeup artist Kristofer Buckle combines 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of sugar to exfoliate the lips of stars such as Mariah Carey. He blends the two in his hand, then applies the mixture in a circular motion for 90 seconds.
5. Matchbook
In a pinch New York City manicurist Elle, whose clients include Jennifer Lopez, uses the back of a matchbook to repair a bad snag. She first cuts the nail with a pair of scissors, then files it with a matchbook strike pad.
6. Paintbrushes
"I use Loew-Cornell's paintbrushes on my clients all the time," says New York City makeup artist Christy Coleman, who has worked with Amanda Peet. "There are different sizes, so you can create precise detail." E-mail to a friend ![]()
