CookingLight.com's nutrition experts offer these tips for healthy eating at parties, for the Super Bowl and beyond: 1. Treat rich, calorie-dense foods as you would condiments. A few bites are all you need to enjoy the flavor. 2. Make a game plan, and stick to it. Tell yourself, "I'm going to eat just an appetizer, a bowl of salad, and half an entrée." Don't deviate from the plan. 3. Fill up on whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Because these foods are high in fiber, they help slow digestion. 4. Eat plenty of protein, the nutrient proven to have the strongest influence on satiety. Simply add a couple of extra shrimp or an extra slice of lean turkey to your plate in place of other foods. 5. Scale down. Sometimes it helps to rate your hunger on a scale of 1 to 5. Stop and think about how you feel at the moment. If the answer is, "Stuffed to the max," save that slice of pumpkin pie for another meal. 6. Splurge wisely, and enjoy food in moderation. Don't eat the pretzels, potato chips, or other foods you can have anytime. Go for the foods that make you feel like you're enjoying a special occasion.
