LONDON, England (CNN) -- What is it: A traditional deep tissue massage of the body using aromatherapy oils at men's grooming salon, Gentleman's Tonic. The massage can be tailored to personal preference. Those who want to feel revitalized could have something a bit harder than someone just after relaxation. Apart from just relaxing muscles it also helps get rid of toxins that have built up in the body.
How long does it take: The massage was for an hour, part of a package that included a facial and a well-made bloody mary to finish things off, called 'The Hemingway.' Thai massages or just a 30-minute refresher are also available.
Verdict: After a few minutes spent trying to feel relaxed, it was easy to just let Emma the skilled masseur do her thing while slowly falling asleep on the massage table. By the end, I certainly felt that my body had been rejuvenated.
Best thing: The small size of the "gentleman's establishment," as those at Gentleman's Tonic like to call it, make it an oasis of calm in the city with an air of exclusivity. Being able to relax on the leather sofa, and read a magazine while sipping a bloody mary was a bonus. The relaxed atmosphere meant you could enjoy taking your time to be pampered and not worry about what you thought you should be doing.
Worst thing: Emma the masseur having to really lay into the muscle knots in my shoulders, with what felt like her elbow to iron them out. Apart from that, the whole experience is painless. It's set up so you don't really want for anything from the moment you enter and are offered a drink in the sleek marble interior to the time when you have to leave and go back to reality
The after effects: An immediate feeling of happy relaxation that would have lasted longer if I hadn't had to go back to work. I was also told I looked much better, too, although I thought I just looked a bit pinker in the face. The longer term effects, however, weren't as good as all the toxins that it successfully released managed to lay me low the following day.
Cost: A 30-minute Swedish massage costs £38, 'The Hemingway' lasts 135 minutes and costs £140.
