Your Opinion: Pablo's plight

(CNN Student News) -- On Wednesday, March 14, 2007, we asked who you thought should get ownership of Pablo the dog. Here are some of your responses, some of which have been edited:

I think that ALL the foster animals should go to their owners because that might be all they have left of their possessions. It is not fair for animals to have new homes and [be] separated from their loved ones!

I think that the owner who had to leave the dog should get the dog back. She lost everything and now the foster home won't give her her dog back. The group that rescued the dog is meant to help save the dog then find the owner and GIVE IT BACK! I can imagine how hard it would be to leave your pet in a disaster like Hurricane Katrina. A pet is kind of like another family member. I think they should give the dog back.

I think that the original owner should get the dog back. The dog is apparently special to her, and it was originally hers anyway. I believe that the foster home should at least get to visit the dog once in a while. The foster home might not want to give it up, but what they don't realize is that they're keeping the dog from its rightful owner. If my cat got lost in some freaky storm and ended up in a foster home, I'd want him and if the people who he was with didn't want to give him back I'd be pretty sad and I [would] fight to get him back for as long as it takes. So basically, all I am trying to say is that the foster home should not keep the dog.

My opinion is Pablo the dog should be given back to his owner (the rightful owner), because she has nothing left but her dog. Just because someone grows attached to the dog does not mean keep it, because the faster parents made an agreement to watch the dog until they found the rightful owner of the animal. How would you feel if someone would not give you your dog?

I think that the owner should get Pablo, because if you had lost everything in the hurricane and only one thing survived you would want that one thing. Also, the foster parents should have known that it was just temporary. If they don't believe that it is her dog then they (the foster parents and the owner) could meet somewhere and they could see if Pablo knew who the owner was to prove if [it] is or isn't her dog.

I believe that the original owner of Pablo should get her dog back. After all she is the one who raised Pablo and she also has memories with Pablo.

I think that they should give the dog back to the rightful owner. That would be crazy if you couldn't have your own pet back. It would feel like you lost a family member. I think that the original owner should get her dog back. It's like losing something and never getting it back because somebody else comes along and decided they want it. It's not fair. She has lost everything else and she should at least get her dog back.

I believe that the actual owner should get Pablo back because she gave up everything during the hurricane, so she should at least get the dog back, just like everybody else that gave up their pets.

I think they should give it to somebody who doesn't want it. That way neither of them get it.

I think the foster family has no right to keep Pablo. It's not the owner's fault that the hurricane hit and Pablo had to go to a foster home.
