(CNN) -- Britain has become a shoe-obsessed country, rivaling even the well-heeled Italians, according to a report published this week by market analyst Mintel. The report highlights shoes sales among women in Britain, which have grown faster than any other country in Europe.

2.6 million: The number of British women who own over 30 pairs of shoes, or one pair for each day of the month.

£6.5 billion: The amount British women currently spend on shoes each year, a 38 percent increase since 2001, according to Mintel.

4 percent: The increase of female shoe purchases in France (which is the fifth-largest female shoe consuming country in Europe) since 2001.

£7.6 billion: The amount British women are expected to spend on their footwear by 2010, according to Mintel research.

14.6 billion euros: The amount Italian women spend each year on keeping their feet fashionable, still by far the most in Europe.

10.6 billion euros: The amount German women spend annually on their shoes, the second-largest spenders in Europe.

3: Sweden's ranking amongst European countries female shoe sales, with 9.6 billion euros being spent in the Scandinavian country.

20 percent: The percentage of British women own between 16 and 30 pairs of shoes.

57 percent: The footwear market held by specialist shoe stores in Britain, a dramatic drop from 70 percent in 2001 as discount clothing retailers increasingly sell shoes.
