UK chemical blast prompts alert
YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS(CNN) -- An explosion at a chemical plant in northeast England early Thursday prompted police to order residents to stay indoors, but firefighters later controlled the resulting blaze and authorities stood down from their earlier alert status. The Cleveland ambulance service reported only minor injuries from the explosion. Cleveland police said the blast took place at the Imperial Chemical Industries plant in Billingham, about 560 kilometers (350 miles) north of London in northeast England's industrial heartland. Police called the blast a "major incident."
