KATMANDU, Nepal (CNN) -- An overloaded bus driving down a mountain road plunged off a cliff in western Nepal, killing at least 42 people and injuring 43 Saturday morning, police said. The officer did not say why the bus went off the road, but said it was overloaded with about 105 people, including passengers on sitting on its roof. More than 40 passengers were injured -- 23 critically -- and two died on the way to the hospital, police said. The accident occurred in Salyan, a mountainous district about 250 miles southwest of the Nepalese capital, Katmandu. Deadly road accidents are common in Nepal, often caused by poor roads and aging, overcrowded vehicles. |
