KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Two children were killed and three British soldiers were wounded in a suicide attack in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province Thursday, police and military officials said.

According to NATO International Security Assistance Force spokesman Maj. Luke Knittig, a trio of British soldiers suffered injuries in the bombing of an ISAF convoy that took place around 11 a.m. in Lashkar Gah.

The British Ministry of Defense in London provided similar information.

"We can confirm that a small number of UK soldiers have been injured in an explosion in Lashkar Gah, there are no reports of UK fatalities."

Police said the attack took place about 100 meters (330 feet) from the provincial governor's residence and killed two children who were selling chewing gum across the street from the explosion.

But police also said that two British soldiers died in the bombing.

According to Journalist Mohammed Famin, he saw the body of one British soldier outside a Land Rover-type vehicle they had been traveling in before the explosion.
