(CNN) -- Afghan and coalition forces killed three suspected al Qaeda members and detained three associates during a raid in eastern Khowst province Friday, a statement from the Coalition Press Information Center said.

The operation took place near the village of Ya'Qubi and included a firefight.

"The purpose of this operation was to capture an al Qaeda facilitator considered a significant threat to Afghan and Coalition forces," the statement said.

"Credible intelligence linked the targeted terrorist to remote-controlled improvised explosive device and vehicle-borne improvise explosive device attacks in Khowst Province."

The forces recovered and destroyed a weapons cache that included armor-piercing ammunition and grenades, according to the coalition release.

No Afghan or Coalition forces were injured during the operation.
