SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir (CNN) -- Kashmiri militants Saturday lobbed a powerful hand grenade at an opposition legislator, wounding her and killing five others -- including her colleague -- police officials said.

Sakina Itoo, who once served as Kashmir's tourism minister, has survived several assassination attempts over the past four years.

Saturday's attack killed former opposition legislator Gulam Nabi Dar, who was with Itoo as she left a local shrine in the town of Kulgam in southern Kashmir, police said.

Four civilians were also killed and 32 others -- including Itoo -- were wounded, many of them critically.

An Indian army helicopter rushed Itoo to Srinagar for medical treatment, about 45 miles (74 km) away.
