(CNN) -- We asked our readers to come up with suggested names for Zoo Atlanta's newest addition -- a baby giant panda. Zookeepers don't yet know the sex of the panda cub, so we asked you to send in names for both a boy and girl. Some of the names are silly, some are serious, but all show a commitment to helping Zoo Atlanta find the perfect name for its new baby panda. Here's a sampling of your entries, some of which have been edited: I think the panda should be called Meeky as it looks so meek and humble. I would say from the pictures, these names might be considered: Pudgie or Trouble. I agree with the Irwin if a boy, and Bindi Sue for a girl. This would be a wonderful gesture for the beloved Steve Irwin. He loved animals so much! If a boy: The Great Pandino. If a girl: The Great Pandina. I would name her Bling Bling. I love the idea. Then there is always Ku Chi Ku. I think Bambu or Bamboo would be a great name for the little baby, whether a boy or a girl. Since the panda is known for its consumption of so much bamboo, what better name? Baby Bamboo - it's rather catchy, don't you think? I suggest naming the cub Mei Mei if it's either a boy or girl. Mei means "beautiful" and with two means double beautiful or twice beautiful. All giant pandas are beautiful. If it's a girl - Momiko (peach child). Boy - Zorro I think the new baby panda should be named (if a boy) Zhuge Liang, after the great strategist of ancient China. He was known as a great man with a brilliant mind. He was also a statesman, engineer, scholar, and legendary inventor, and a great contributor to China, much like the new panda is a great contribution to the panda population. But if it's a girl, she should be named Diao Chan, after the famous beauty of ancient China. While she may only be a fictional character it is said that she was one of the great "Four Beauties" of ancient China. Very fitting for our new and adorable little panda friend. Girl - Shing Fu (Blessed). Boy - Jaan Shyr (Warrior). I live very close to the L.A. Zoo, but they don't have pandas. My mom took me to the San Diego Zoo when we first moved here. But they didn't have any either. I would like to come to Atlanta to see Lun Lun and her baby cub. I think she should be named Niko, like me! It's a Japanese name, so it's Asian, but it's a big name for such a little baby and then we can all watch him grow into it. The girl name I like is Mini-Lun, after her mom, because panda's are rare and it would be nice to pay respect to the mommy panda that way. The baby panda bear should be called Hope. This baby brings us hope that pandas will continue to breed and survive. The bears are so cute! I wish the best to mama Lun Lun and baby. Y'all take care of them now! In spite of living in a world of changes, challenges, and lack of peace in many places, I would like to propose the name of Hope this new baby cub, which could be the sign for the incoming times for mankind. For either a girl or a boy, Xiao Tao, little peach. A girl could also be Mei Tao (beautiful peach, i.e. Georgia belle). Tai Ni Bei Bi (also know as tiny baby). How about Adnap? It's Panda spelled backwards, and it's unisex. I have enjoyed watching the live Panda Cam and think the interactions between Lun Lun and her baby are heartwarming and absolutely adorable! The name that came to mind when I saw Lun Lun's precious cub is Ling Ling. It just seems to fit. Lun Lun and Ling Ling. And it's compatible whether it's a boy or a girl. That way the baby doesn't have to go nameless while everyone waits to figure out if it's a boy or a girl! For a male, I would name the cub Min Min, meaning "strong, robust." For a female, I would name her Ling Ling, meaning "sunshine." It's a beauty either way! I have a name that would fit both a boy and girl - Xing Xing - which means star in the sky. Male - Alfonso. Female - Moo Goo Gai Pan. Boy or girl - Karisma - that says it all!
Girl- Manda Panda - It's a family nickname that my mother has always called me from birth. I have always had a love for panda since then. I like the name Fuzzy. So cute to cuddle. I think the new cub should be named Poup. Panda boy name : Bane. It is Hawaiian meaning "long-awaited child." Panda girl name: Noelani -- Hawaiian meaning "beautiful girl from heaven." Sage. This can be a boy or a girl's name. It has special meaning to me, as I'm learning about Eastern philosophy and Taoism. I've also considered naming my unborn son this Sage. For a boy: Jing Jin, which loosely translates to "pure gold." For a girl: Mei Ling, which loosely translates to "delicate beauty," I think. Personally, I think anything you name a panda is adorable. You might as well name it Jane or Sam, it wouldn't change the fact that they are so stinking cute! To match the mother's name, something like Luna for a girl. No idea for a boy. I think that the baby panda should be named Luv Li (pronounced Love Lee or Lovely). I was born and raised in the South. And it is time for some southern names. How about Georgia if it is a girl, and Beauguard (Beau for short) if it is a boy. Since the panda's were born in Atlanta, I think we should name them appropriately. Girl - Scarlett. Boy - Rhett. If it's a girl, call her G.G. for Georgia girl. And for a boy, G.B. of course. For a girl: Tea (as in sweet tea - this is Georgia you know!) For a boy: Max (as in maximum excitement to have a baby panda born in captivity). It is awesome to be able to see this great panda. Congratulations, it is an excellent idea. Please keep the Web cam for a long time. The name for the girl would be Lisa and for the boy, Gaston. I think that if it's a girl it should be called Kira-Kira, which is glittering in Japanese. For a boy I think it should be called Shing-Shan, which just plain sounds cool. If it's a girl. Joy, and a boy, Big Bruiser. I can't think of a good name just yet. I am curious, however, about where I could find out more about the mother. I appreciate you putting the Panda Cam up. I've watched her quite a bit and she seems to do almost nothing but sleep in the corner. I hope she is feeling well. The new panda should be called Mr. Panda. If a girl, I like Luna. And if a boy, Oscar. Kevin is a super name for a panda bear cub. Thank you! For either a boy or a girl: Cubcake Whether it is a girl or a boy, the "bouncing" baby should be named Ping Pong. Checkers for a boy, and Domino for a girl. I think the name Emerson is good for a boy or a girl baby panda. I'm a Peace Corps volunteer currently serving in China, and I'm quite a fan of my given Chinese name, Zhi Yong. It means wise and brave. It's certainly applicable to the tough life a baby panda has. I recently went to the Panda Reserve in Chengdu and got to see over 20 pandas, including a set of twins that was born in early August. What amazing animals! Cha-Ching. It cost a lot of money to keep the pandas in the USA! Name for new baby Panda, boy or girl: Fun Fun. I would name the cub Moonpie. ![]() Yang Yang, left, and Lun Lun in 1999. Zoo Atlanta announced Lun Lun gave birth September 6.
