(CNN) -- Hurricane Katrina survivor Rockey Vaccarella towed a FEMA-style trailer more than 950 miles to thank President Bush on Wednesday for the government's help in rebuilding the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast.

But he also reminded Bush that the work there isn't done. "I just wanted to let the president know -- please don't forget about us -- that the rebuilding has taken awhile. A year is sometimes a long time when you don't have your home, and your life is interrupted," Vaccarella said.

Vaccarella's family has been living in a FEMA trailer since the storm destroyed their home nearly a year ago. "It's just like an extended camping trip," he said he's told his wife over the past year.

"American Morning" chose Vaccarella as the latest person who was "Making Their Mark."

CNN.com asked readers to send in their ideas about who is having an impact this past week. Here is a selection of those e-mails, some of which have been edited:

I think Rockey Vaccarella and his family have made an impact on news this week. I was so happy to see that CNN showed this story because since the hurricanes there has been nothing but pessimism and anger toward the president. I appreciate the Vaccarella family and their optimism, understanding and glass half-full mentality. This story has restored my faith in people and the media, and I am truly appreciative that this story made the news. Let's see more like this. Thank you again!
Andrea Tuttle, Key West, Florida

I choose Spike Lee. While the victims of Katrina and the disaster area have been long forgotten, Spike Lee brought this back to the forefront. Our government should be ashamed for events before, during and after Katrina. Thank you, Spike Lee for not being afraid to tell the truth of what happened and what is going on. George Bush and his Cabinet should not only be impeached, but tried for crimes of treason against our people and our nation.
Janice Joyner, Powder Springs, Georgia

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad continues to mark this week's news by insisting that Iran has a right to enrich uranium, after saying he'd like to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth. To me, these statements make it perfectly clear that he is stoking the flames of WWIII.
Lynne Bowden, Bayport, New York

My choice for top news maker is Sam Thompson, from Vicksburg, Mississippi, who ran 51 marathon courses in 50 days to spread the message that "everything is not fixed" one year after Hurricane Katrina left such tremendous devastation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Sam is amazing, not just because he accomplished his goal, but because of all the time and effort he has given to help the people of Bay St. Louis and the surrounding area rebuild their lives.
Beth Simpson, Hobbs, New Mexico
