Nine die in Tennessee house fire

(CNN) -- A fire engulfed a two-story house in eastern Tennessee, killing nine people -- including four young children, as they slept, local officials said.

A 19-year-old man, who was on the first floor, escaped the blaze, according to the Evensville Fire Department. Evensville is about 45 miles north of Chattanooga. (Watch what remains of a fire that claimed a family -- 1:08)

The fire department responded shortly after 6 a.m. An investigation by Rhea County sheriff's deputies is under way to determine the cause of the fire.

According to the fire department, two of the children were a year old; the others were 4 and 6. The fire also claimed the lives of a 16-year-old boy and three women, ages 49, 23 and 22.
