Hotel rooms for those on the move
![]() Travelodge hopes the mobile room will offer a more luxurious alternative to staying in tents. YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS(CNN) -- A hotel company has come up with a new style of room that will suit those who love the outdoors but hate compromising on luxury. Travelodge's new "Travelpod" is a mobile hotel room that is fitted with all the features of the company's traditional hotel rooms. The hotel chain is hoping the idea will take off at music festivals as an alternative to tents. The mobile room, sealed in a 19.6-feet (six-meter) long and 8.5-feet (2.6-meter) high, clear poly carbonate glass box, will be transported to each location by truck and offloaded with a crane. Inside, the room has a luxury double bed, bedside tables, lights, duvet, pillows, fully carpeted floor, dressing table with light, mirror, chair and even its own toilet. Wayne Munnelly, Travelodge's director of sleep, said the Travelpod was currently being tested and he hopes it will be in use next year at festivals and other major outdoor events. "We are always looking at new ways of making budget accommodation more accessible to the public. The Travelpod is a great way of taking our Travelodge room to the customer," he said. Travelodge hotel rooms start at £26 ($49) per night and the company will initially charge the same amount for stays in its Travelpod.
