• From: Rick; New York • Posted: Oct. 5, 2006 • Comment: I have been to Rio many times since 1988. It is indeed a beautiful city, but just like the rest of Brazil, it has its problems, which for the most part stem from corrupt and greedy politicians who seemed determined to keep the wealth for themselves while many go to bed hungry every night. Yes, the girls, the music, the beaches, the sea, and the mountains are very beutiful, which is why I keep going back. But what about the violent crime, the army of lice infested homeless people who sleep on the sidewalks every night, the wolf packs of 9 and 10 year old discarded children who have to rob, steal and prostitute themselves in order to put food in their stomachs, while trying to avoid the death squads who are constantly trying to hunt them down and kill them, all in the name of making Rio a more decent place to live? What about the absurd situation in the many favelas where organized crime families have to fill the void left by a government that absolutely refuses to p! rovide basic services to it's residents, the many instances of abuse and disrespect heaped on innocent citizens by the police to the point that many residents will not even go to the police to report a crime when they themselves have been victimized? Yes Rio is beautiful. But I'm not blind and I'm not stupid. And neither is the rest of the world. As I am constantly telling many of my Carioca friends, it's time that Brazilians wake up and stop just talking about how beautiful both Rio and the rest of the country are and start doing something to solve it's problems. Maybe then the International Olympic Committee (as well as the rest of the world), will take their requests to host the Olympics more seriously, instead of routinely denying them.
• From: Fred Sanders; New York • Posted: Apr. 27, 2006 • Comment: I visted Rio recently. It' s really gorgeous. I would live there. Street life looks like NY, but with the view of a splendid sea just in front of your eyes. I visited other great cities in Brazil. Salvador is nice, Recife too. Sorry but Sao Paulo is ugly, and the people is arrogant.
• From: Sidnei Brito; Sao Paulo • Posted: May 11, 2006 • Comment: I agree with Fred Sanders: in Sao Paulo, people is arrogant; in Rio, people is very nice, besides, girls from Rio are very gorgeous. But is very interesting the fact of most of "cariocas" would leave Rio if they could: a respectable poll said it. Sao Paulo is really ugly, at least uglier than Rio, with many buildings, people a lot, polution, too many cars, as New York! Thanks, friends!
• From: Jonathan; New York • Posted: Apr. 27, 2006 • Comment: Rio de Janeiro is the city that speaks to my heart. My 5 month stay in Copacabana Beach has left so many beautiful memories. I am proud to be Puerto Rican mas no fondo do meu coracao, sou Carioca. Viva O Rio a cidade maravilhosa!
• From: Rohan Julinho; New York • Posted: Apr. 25, 2006 • Comment: Brazil on a whole is absolutely georgeous, the shores of Rio de Janero is listed as a natural world wonder, though there are many wonderfull plaes in this world ... Brazil by far encapsulates the best in beautiful women, love , music, strife with a culture of people that are all connected in some way to common history and the soil, did I mention the best mix of women in the world ... if their government only cared enough it would truly be the City of God.

• From: Lucas; Rio de Janeiro • Posted: Apr. 25, 2006 • Comment: Brzil is the best contry to live, and Rio de Janeirois a beatifful city and has beatiful girls
• From: Sidnei Brito; Sao Paulo • Posted: Apr. 21, 2006 • Comment: Only people don't know Rio, like Rio! I read in "Folha de São Paulo" newspaper that recent polls point that 50% of 'cariocas' would leave the city if they can. The "wonderful city" just exists in the head of foreigners. Brazilians know - including 'cariocas' - the most important Brazilian city is São Paulo, with its 10.000.000 inhabitans (18.000.000 in its metropolitan region), São Paulo is the principal economic, financial and cultural center not only in Brazil, but probably in Latin America. Foreigners, please: pay attention in São Paulo!
• From: Samuel Morais; Belo Horizonte, Brazil • Posted: Apr. 25, 2006 • Comment: My favourite beach in Rio is Copacabana. I also like the songs of Seu Jorge, because it´s very "brazilian". I disagree with Sidnei, because he is just trying to put Rio down and Sao Paulo up. I went to Sao Paulo last week and I thought it is a good city, but the polution is very hight. Thank you.
• From: Sidnei Brito; Sao Paulo • Posted: Apr. 26, 2006 • Comment: I read the comment of Samuel, from Belo Horizonte, and I'd like to explain that I didn't want to put São Paulo up and Rio down. I just wanted to say there are other places very important in Brazil: not only São Paulo, but also Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Campinas, Recife, Salvador, Curitiba etc. etc. etc. I just say about São Paulo because I know it better, of course! But I can't deny Rio is a Brazilian postcard and offered many beautiful things to the world: Bossa Nova, Villa-Lobos, works of Nelson Rodrigues, Leila Diniz among others. But nowadays Rio unfortunately doens't have so much to present us. About São Paulo pollution, you're right: it's an absurd! But I think it's not too different in Rio or BH. Pollution is a drama of metropolis. Thank you for all and... Um grande abraço, Samuel!

Coming from such hardship and suffering, this beloved brother wants to give something back to the suffering people of Rio and Brazil in general. The world needs more Seu Jorge in its Cities.... people who truly care and do something about the problems facing the poor, not just talking about it. May God continue to bless this brother in his efforts towards the helpless and young in particular.

• From: Jaime Silva; Brazil • Posted: Apr. 18, 2006 • Comment: What utter nonsense! Obviously you know nothing and care less about Brazil, music and especially, Rio. "Can't make enemies with music" How ignorant. Much of what I hear in music is not only distasteful, but makes me an enemy of those who create it and even more of those who blast it with no regard for others.
